NEW CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AERONAUTICAL PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
Last Monday, 12 May 2014, the official cornerstone ceremony of the New Centre for the Development of Aeronautical Products and Systems took place. It was attended by distinguished guests such as the Hon. Mr Juan Soler, Mayor of Getafe, the Hon. Manuel Beltrán, Vice Councillor of Economy, Commerce and Consumption for the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Mr Ramón Herrero, Deputy General Director of Strategic Programmes for the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, Mr José María Pérez and Ms Carmen Alonso, Councillors of Economy, Urban Planning and Employment and Chief and Technician of the Centre for Industrial Technological Development’s Dept. of Energy, Transport, Manufacturing and Information Society, Mr Miguel Ángel Morell, Senior Vice President and Head of Engineering of Airbus D&S and Director of CESA, Mr Rafael Acedo, Head of Product & Head of Business Line Strategy of Airbus D&S, and Mr Alberto Gutiérrez, President of Eurofighter. Also in attendance, representing CESA’s workforce, were Mr Eduardo Antón and Mr Manuel Marchal.
As part of the ceremony, a guided tour of the CESA facilities was led by José Leal, company president, during which the processes and equipment being developed by CESA were shown. The tour ended on the land allocated for the New Building, where the urn ceremony took place. The Mayor of Getafe, the Vice Councillor of Economy, Commerce and Consumption of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the President of CESA were responsible for placing the cornerstone for the enlargement of the CESA facilities.
The ceremony closed with a speech from the company president summarising the company’s trajectory over these past 25 years, as well as its past, present and prospects for the future. With this enlargement, CESA anticipates the creation of 120 new jobs directly and 160 indirectly thanks to the mass production of two of the most important programmes in which it is participating today: A400M and A350 XWB. This New Centre will be dedicated to the development of new technologies.
José Leal expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the company, to Airbus Defense & Space, its main partner, for making possible this project that began 25 years ago, to the General and Autonomous Community Public Administrations for the aid received through numerous R&D&i projects, through which a competitive and technological advantage was achieved, to the Getafe Town Council for its collaboration and, especially, to the people responsible for the company’s current situation, CESA’s workforce, whose firm commitment, immense dedication and high qualifications he highlighted, affirming that “they have been, and will be, the pivot of our success.”
The Mayor of Getafe, Juan Soler, asserted that “we are certain that one year from now this industry will already have created a lot of jobs for the labour market; firstly, jobs for the people who are going to construct the buildings needed, but after that, good permanent positions for highly qualified employees.” Manuel Beltrán concluded the ceremony after emphasising the Community of Madrid’s support for an industry it considers to be strategic.
