SMART DAMPING (Based on magneto-rheological fluids)

Magnetorheological (MR) technology is based on intelligent fluids whose rheological characteristics change rapidly and can be controlled easily in the presence of an applied magnetic field.

This technology addresses several objectives:

• Provide aircraft with adaptable actuation capabilities adapting their behavior to the specific necessities of specified working conditions
• Increase payload ratio and comfort
• Improve airframe & LG life reducing maintenance costs.
• Reduce fatigue loads and airframe overall weight

HD Spain has developed several prototypes of shock absorbers with this technology for UAVs and for transport aircraft.

Currently HD Spain is working in the full validation of the MR system for the whole range of dynamic conditions.
